Privacy Policy

1. Summary

Dictee does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. The app runs entirely on your device. We do not operate any servers that process your content, and we do not use any third-party analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs.

2. Information processed on your device

Dictee processes the following information locally on your iPhone only. None of it is ever uploaded to us or to any third party:

• Microphone audio, captured when you tap the record button. Used solely to transcribe your speech using an on-device AI model.
• Transcribed text produced by the on-device speech recognition model.
• Rewritten text produced by the on-device language model when you request a style rewrite.
• Synthesized speech generated by the on-device text-to-speech model when you tap Play.
• Temporary audio files stored in the app's private container during a session. Deleted when you start a new recording or close the app.

Apple's iOS sandbox prevents other apps from accessing this data.

3. Information we do not collect

We do not collect, and the app does not transmit:

• Your name, email address, phone number, or any account identifier. Dictee does not require an account.
• Device identifiers (IDFA, IDFV), advertising IDs, or device fingerprints.
• Location data.
• Contact lists, photos, or files.
• Crash reports or analytics events.
• Network requests of any kind related to your dictation content.

4. Permissions

Dictee requests the following iOS permission, which you can grant or revoke at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security:

• Microphone access — required to capture your voice for on-device dictation. If you deny microphone access, you cannot record speech, but you can still use rewriting and playback on previously captured transcripts.

5. On-device AI models

Dictee bundles three open-source AI models that run entirely on your iPhone using Apple's MLX framework:

• Speech recognition: mlx-community/Qwen3-ASR-0.6B-4bit (based on Qwen3-ASR-0.6B by Alibaba Cloud)
• Text rewriting: mlx-community/Qwen3-1.7B-4bit (based on Qwen3-1.7B by Alibaba Cloud)
• Text-to-speech: mlx-community/Soprano-80M-bf16 (based on Soprano-80M by ekwek)

All three models are distributed under the Apache License 2.0. No audio, prompts, or generated text are sent to the model authors, to Hugging Face, or to any other third party.

6. Children's privacy

Dictee is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Dictee collects no personal information from any user, this policy is consistent with COPPA.

7. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

Because Dictee collects no personal information, there is nothing for us to sell, share, disclose, or delete in response to a California rights request. You may still contact us with any questions.

8. European Union (GDPR)

The developer of Dictee is established in Germany and is therefore subject to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Because everything Dictee does happens on your device and nothing is transmitted to us, we process no personal data within the meaning of Art. 4(1) GDPR when you use the app. We are not a controller in respect of the content you dictate: we never receive it, cannot access it, and hold no copy of it.

Since we hold no data about you, requests for access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, or objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR) have nothing to act on — you remain in sole control of the data on your device and can remove all of it by deleting the app. You nevertheless have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority competent for us is Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg, Lautenschlagerstraße 20, 70173 Stuttgart, https://www.baden-wuerttemberg.datenschutz.de.

9. Security

All Dictee data lives in the iOS application sandbox and is protected by the operating system. Because no data is ever transmitted off your device, there is no server-side data store that could be breached.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated through an app update.
